A top Alpaca may be described as: “Quality breeding of champion bloodlines, exquisite handling of beautiful, dense, uniform and lustrous dark colour… excellence in fineness and conformation, with a delightful temperament and robust constitution from these obvious elite genes…”

As we sat overlooking our mountain, undulating paddocks and sunset over the dam, our herd was heading homeward. Sipping a wonderful glass of wine, on the deck, it struck us that a description of our beloved alpacas, could equally describe the attributes of a great wine. Surely this unique animal’s blood was worth bottling, if only figuratively speaking!

So we asked our friends at McLaren Vale to produce a wine akin to the Huacaya Alpacas. The result was The Black Huacaya 2004 which is a South Australian Shiraz, predominantly McLaren Vale with Langhorne Creek and Limestone Coast parcels added, is deep in colour, bursting with blackberry fruit juice, blueberry jam with liquorice, pepper and spice overtones. This wine, the happy outcome, is likely to provide as much fun as introducing someone to an alpaca for the first time!

Again we asked our friends at McLaren Vale to produce a wine similar to our Suri Alpacas. The resulting wine from South Australia, The White Suri is a 2005 Chardonnay elegant, well-balanced wine; aromatic, fruit-driven and silky on the palate, to match the characteristics of our enchanting, intelligent, Suri Alpacas. It is the wonderful result of a joint venture of vineyard and alpaca farm co-fermentation!
