Suri Huacaya Difference
breed history | suri & huacaya differences | fleece fibre explanation

White Suris
The silky lustrous appearance and feel of the Suri fibre is not as apparent in the soft Huacaya fleece. It is now even possible to have Suri fibre processed in Australian textile mills. White fleece can be dyed to any colour or mixed with other threads. Mixtures of fibres, for example: Huacaya fibre, wool, silk, cashmere and mohair can all be mixed with the Suri fibre.

Black Huacayas
A soft uniform fleece characterful fleece with good density is seen in the black Huacaya. The black is rapidly catching up to whites in terms of achieving the desirable lower micron fibre. This is being achieved through careful selective breeding programs. The only special care of these black fleece animals is that they may need a small supplement of AD&E vitamins and copper which, if deficient, produces red tipsin the fleece especially around the brisket area, as their dark fleece tends to absorb these vitamins and can leave their bodies deficient.
